mapYesterday God drop kicked me into the next phase of my journey. (Be careful what you pray for.) I’d stalled and needed the kick; however it was a miserable day. A big factor in today being much better was that I’d learned about the cycle of change, and after the dust settled I realized what was happening to me. I was therefore able to adjust and embrace the challenge. It was a good thing, after all, and everything I am going through is perfectly normal and temporary. That’s a wonderful realization when you think you are losing your grip and making all the wrong life choices.

Any journey goes smoother and more quickly when you have an idea of where you are going and what to expect of the road conditions. So, here’s an overview of the cycle of change.

It all starts with an event that has left you feeling like the lone survivor of a train wreck in the middle of a desert. You are dazed and disoriented. You’re not sure what just happened to you, what to do, or where to go. Your life has been so thoroughly disrupted you are no longer the same person. You have been catapulted into the change cycle. The good news is that it’s a predictable cycle.

First of all you need to mourn what you’ve lost and begin to think about what you want your future to bring. The opportunity here is to create a brand new you and a brand new life. If you plot a course based on your true self, you can direct your life to true happiness.

When you notice the return of real hope it’s time to start planning the life you want. Dream the uninhibited dream and let you heart ask for whatever it wants. Then start doing your research to see how this to make it happen.

This brings you to the heroic task of putting your plan into action and making your dreams a reality. This is where your plans get knocked around, as well as your hopes and your ego. It’s hard going from zero to fabulous. Be patient, learn from your mistakes, and make adjustments. I believe it was Edison who said – I haven’t failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.

If you do these things you will reach your dream goal, and then instead of building the life of your dreams, you can tend to the life of your dreams.
